Things of Note: Feb 9–15
Happy Sunday! Here are a couple fun things that I saw or read about this week:
- Apparently, this came out last year, but Lewitt has a new microphone with some very cool technology under the hood. It appears to use an infrared blaster to sense how close or far away you are from the mic and automatically adjusts the volume, so you always capture a consistent sound! It also can automatically mute your microphone when you back away from it. If I ever am part of a podcast or host more video calls, this could be pretty nifty.
- Depending on where you live, you might have started seeing some futuristic-looking Amazon delivery vans in your area. They are built by Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer in Illinois. They have slowly been rolling out an electric pickup (R1T) and full-size SUV (R1S), and they are about to launch a new model called the R2. This one is more of a mid-size SUV (think a CR-V or RAV4), and I think that this one should sell like proverbial hotcakes.
- This Sunday, my church had our orchestra play with the worship team, which is always fun to have twelve or so extra instruments on stage. We also introduced a new-ish song from Keith and Krisyn Getty called Christus Victor (Amen). Such a powerful song, and I think our church will learn and love it!
- I watched the first How to Train Your Dragon movie with some friends last night, one of whom was seeing it for the first time! Don't write off the HTTYD franchise as “kids’ movies"; they are gorgeously animated, and the score is second to none. It reminded me of this arrangement that TikTok-famous organist Anna Lapwood recorded on the Royal Albert Hall's pipe organ, which has 9,999 pipes (the second-largest pipe organ in the UK). What I would give to hear this in person!
Until next week!
